Asahi Kasei to supply Hipore鈩 lithium-ion battery separator to Toyota Tsusho- Establishment of automotive battery supply chain partnership in North America - Diversified global manufacturer Asahi Kasei and Toyota Tsusho have established a strategic partnership for the supply of automotive lithium-ion battery (LIB) separator in North America. Their respective subsidiaries in the U.S., Asahi Kasei Battery Separator America, LLC (AKBSA) and Toyota Tsusho America, Inc. (TAI), have finalized a capacity rights agreement for AKBSA to supply Hipore鈩 wet-process LIB separator to TAI.

The agreement entitles TAI to a preferential share of AKBSA's production capacity for Hipore鈩 LIB separator. Beginning in mid-2027, AKBSA will supply TAI with coated Hipore鈩 separator from its new coating facility currently under construction in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This partnership allows Asahi Kasei to mitigate the risk of market fluctuations and effectively utilize resources by maintaining high rates of operation. Toyota Tsusho will benefit from a stable supply of LIB separator manufactured at the Charlotte plant as it promotes the establishment of an automotive battery supply chain in North America.

By combining Asahi Kasei's strengths in functional materials and Toyota Tsusho's expertise in mobility, the partnership will accelerate the adoption of high-quality wet-process separator in the North American battery market and facilitate the manufacture of higher-performance electric vehicles.

"This alliance fits perfectly with Asahi Kasei's global growth strategy to build and strengthen a supply chain in North America with our partners and to capture medium- to long-term growth opportunities in the electrified vehicle market," said Ryu Taniguchi, Lead Executive Officer of Asahi Kasei and responsible for the company's separator business. "As a supplier of high-quality LIB separator, in partnership with Toyota Tsusho we will build an ecosystem that supports electrification in North America and leads the way to a carbon-neutral future."

Kazuyuki Urata, COO of Toyota Tsusho's Circular Economy Division, added, "This collaboration with Asahi Kasei is an important step toward the acceleration of electrification in North America and the realization of a sustainable mobility society. Toyota Tsusho will leverage its global network and expertise in the mobility field to build a highly reliable automotive LIB supply chain, thereby creating a foundation to support the spread of electrified vehicles and the reduction of their environmental impact."

To support growing demand in North America, Asahi Kasei is currently advancing plans to establish a battery separator facility in Canada, as announced in May 2024. Asahi Kasei's separator business is positioned for Growth Potential in its medium-term management plan, with a focus on expanding Hipore鈩 wet-process separator in North America. Developing the Canadian facility alongside its U.S. plants will allow the company to continue building its presence within the growing battery ecosystem in North America.

Toyota Tsusho JV Opens Egypt's First Automotive Logistics Terminal- Contributing to the Expansion of Egypt's Trade and the Streamlining of Automotive Logistics - Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announced today that the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal ("SCAT") commenced operations on July 1, 2025. SCAT is Egypt's first automotive logistics terminal, and has been constructed at East Port Said by Toyota Tsusho in partnership with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line).

With Egypt's automotive market expanding due to both population growth and economic development, there has been a recent increase in vehicle imports, and a full-scale commencement of exports is also anticipated in the future. Egypt's main port, Alexandria Port, is a multipurpose port that handles various types of cargo in addition to vehicles. Among the issues it has faced is a chronic shortage of storage space, and consequently, the development of East Port Said as a new receiving port was desired.

As Egypt's first automotive logistics terminal, it has a wharf area which can simultaneously accommodate two large car carriers and a yard that will be gradually developed to accommodate up to 10,000 vehicles.

While continuing to flexibly respond to Egypt's domestic import and export demands for vehicles, Toyota Tsusho will leverage the terminal's strategic location at the Mediterranean entrance of the Suez Canal to capture transshipment demand for Europe and the Mediterranean region, thereby contributing to the expansion of trade and the enhancement of automotive logistics efficiency in the region.

Through the operation of SCAT, Toyota Tsusho will contribute to the development of Egypt's automotive industry and economy. Furthermore, at the upcoming Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), to be held this summer in Yokohama, Japan, Toyota Tsusho will promote the key message "for the future children of Africa" as it continues its efforts to help address social challenges and support economic growth across Africa.

Planic ("Planic") has been adopted for the first time in a Toyota vehicle in Japan for the front fender seal of the Crown "Sport."

Crown "Sport"

Planic, whose shareholders are Toyota Tsusho and Kojima Sangyo Co., Ltd. (a Kojima Industries Corporation Group company), is one of the largest*1 recycled plastic manufacturing companies in Japan. The raw materials for the manufacture of recycled plastic used by Planic are collected from Toyota Tsusho Group company TOYOTA METAL CO., LTD.*2, which is engaged in the automotive recycling business, as well as from ASR recycling facilities and home appliance recycling plants throughout Japan.

As it is difficult to sort collected plastics that include ASR-derived plastics by material, it is hard to conduct Car to Car recycling, which requires high quality, so the plastics have mainly been incinerated (thermal recycling). Amid these circumstances, Planic has become the first company in Japan to introduce advanced gravity separation technology and equipment, which has been put to practical use in Europe, enabling the manufacture of high-quality recycled plastic and Car to Car recycling. This has become a major strength of the company.

("HIGHRESO"), which operates a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) data centers and develops GPU cloud services.

In recent years, with the rapid popularization of generative AI and growing demand for large-scale data processing, demand for data centers equipped with GPU computing power, which has superior image processing capabilities, is increasing both within Japan and overseas. HIGHRESO is developing its data center business by promoting collaboration and co-creation with local communities, while giving consideration to the environment, such as through energy-saving designs and utilizing renewable energy.

Toyota Tsusho concluded a partnership agreement with HIGHRESO in 2023 and has been promoting collaboration in the sale of GPU cloud services. With a view to expanding overseas sales channels and considering the establishment of green data centers, this investment combines HIGHRESO's energy-saving design technology and data center operational know-how with the Toyota Tsusho Group's knowledge and customer base in the renewable energy business.

Currently, the public and private sectors are working together to promote Watt-Bit Coordination, as proposed by the Meeting on Digital Administrative and Fiscal Reform, which involves the integration of electric power (watts) with information communication (bits) by developing renewable energy generation facilities and information communication infrastructure such as data centers in a unified manner. By collaborating with these developments, Toyota Tsusho will continue to promote carbon neutrality and the development of a digital society.
